Today marks the 14th Anniversary of 911. In Jan 2002, I penned my thoughts about that day in a song called Wake Up Call. It did not take long for this country to forget how it pulled together and threw off its’ petty arguments over things that make no difference for eternity. May we not wait for another major event to get our lives in order and our priorities straight.
Wake Up Call
Another ordinary Tuesday morning in the promised land
Feeling proud of what my life’s become
Sipping coffee in my kitchen I’ve got the kids off safe to school
Surrounded by the comfort of my home
Suddenly my life as I knew it
Was uncovered by four fiery planes
My selfish heart ripped open as the towers
Tumbled to the ground in flames
To sound the wake up call
The land of the free the home of the brave
We’ve a right to boast of who we are
Our freedoms like no other country with wealth beyond compare
Blessed by God this land that we adore
Suddenly our world as we knew it
Was exposed by men of wicked ways
Our complacent thoughts replaced by ones of horror
Yet who could know the change it made
People praying on their knees for comfort from above
Acknowledging we can’t always provide peace for ourselves
Partisan politicians finally stand on common ground
Demonstrating principles from which America was found
And we had our wake up call
To hold onto the things that really matter most of all
Exchanging our selfish hearts for ones that serve no matter what the cost
With compassion and love
Compassion and love
